ASD Cape Town have expressed their disappointment on Indian junior international midfielder Brandon Fernandes’ decision to stay back in Goa and to try his luck to sign a contract with one of the I-League teams.

ASD Cape Town have also confirmed that to date they have not been contacted by any club requesting international clearance for the youngster.

“We haven’t been approached by any clubs for the international clearance of Brandon Fernandes,” ASD Director Mike Steptoe clarified in an official statement.

“It’s fair to say that we have been extremely disappointed that Brandon has opted to be out of the game for so long, and continue to believe that joining an I-League side would be a massive step backwards for a player who twelve months ago had some of the top clubs in Europe showing interest in him.”

During his time at ASD, Brandon Fernandes has trialled with Leicester City, Reading, Sunderland and St Mirren. A trial at AS Monaco was on the cards earlier this year, however Brandon picked up an injury whilst at St Mirren in January.

“Ignoring advice from the club to report back to ASD’s residence in Cape Town and work on his fitness, he instead chose to return to his family in Goa where he has failed to train at an elite level for nine months,” ASD Cape Town communicated in their statement.

Brandon joined Sporting Clube de Goa for training a few days ago, which reportedly linked him with a possible deal at the I-League side.
