Atlético de Kolkata sign Luis Javier García Sanz as marquee player

ISL franchise Atlético de Kolkata have announced the signing of former Spanish international and UEFA Champions League winner Luis Javier García Sanz as a marquee player.

The 36-year-old attacking midfielder started his career at the B Team of FC Barcelona, before he started his journey throuh professional football. Luis García has played in Spain for Real Valladolid, CD Toledo, CD Tenerife, Atlético Madrid and FC Barcelona.

Luis García left Barcelona in 2004 to join Premiship side Liverpool FC where he became a key player in the club’s successful campaign in the UEFA Champions League which ended with a historic win in the final against AC Milan.

The Spaniard returned to Spain in 2007 to join Atlético Madrid once again, before he went on to continue his career at Racing de Santander, Panathinaikos FC (Greece), Puebla FC (Mexico) and Pumas UNAM (Mexico).

Luis García announced his retirement from club football in January 2014, but he has agreed to play for Atlético Madrid’s ISL franchise in the City of Joy.

He has earned 20 caps for Spain and he was part of Spanish national team at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
