European leagues join hands to fight hunger
Bundesliga Press Release | Published on May 12, 2010

Bundesliga The German Bundesliga has joined forces with all other football leagues across Europe in the '1billionhungry project' campaign against worldwide hunger.

DFL Chief Marketing Officer Tom Bender and Bundesliga legend Hansi Müller appealed for support at a press conference in Rome. It follows the successful work of the EPFL in regard to the issue since they became involved last year. Central to this year's discussions was a petition with over a million signatures which was handed over to the heads of each of the United Nations states at the end of October.

Each of the various football leagues across Europe will stage a matchday dedicated to the cause in autumn 2010 under the motto 'The 1billionhungry project'.

"Almost a billion people across the world are suffering from hunger. It's our duty to get involved," said DFL Chief Marketing Officer Tom Bender. "All our colleagues from around the continent are uniting to support this worthy cause. We can only win the fight against hunger if we work together."

"I myself realised just how much our help is needed on a visit to Africa. It's more important than ever that we really up the fight against hunger," added Bundesliga ambassador Hansi Müller.
